Titus 3:5-7 KJV “Not by works of righteousness which we have done, but according to his mercy he saved us, by the washing of regeneration, and renewing of the Holy Ghost; Which he shed on us abundantly through Jesus Christ our Saviour; That being justified by his grace, we should be made heirs according to the hope of eternal life.” As you said Brian, The Bible also states that God saves us “for his great name sake”. (Joshua 7:9; I Sam. 12:22; Jer. 14:7; Ezk. 20:44, 36;22, 39:25; & also many references to this are in Psalms.
